QB Meeting dates set....
Hey Gang,
We just finished our meeting and I thought I would let all of you who couldn't make it know what we discussed....
It was decided that the Quiz Bowl Team members would put together a Skill-a-Thon for the March 26 mandatory Goat Day. We will be picking up some materials from the Extension Office and working on this at the next meeting.
We discussed putting together teams. Depending on the final count, we will, more than likely, send two teams to the Goat Expo. That brings us to the issue of getting firm commitments from those who want to be on a team. We haven't had a full group at a meeting yet, and are still not sure if a few people are actually going to be able to participate.
Our next meeting is scheduled for February 25, at 7pm. We are calling this a mandatory meeting because we need to get teams in order, finalize areas to study, and get Skill-a-thon stations figured out. If there is some reason why you won't be able to attend, please let either Ellen or myself know as soon as possible. We have hopefully given enough notice that everyone will be able to make it, or if the date is a problem for too many people, we can try to reschedule for another date.
The schedule for meetings will be as follows:
Friday, February 25 at 7pm (mandatory)
Tuesday, March 22 at 7 pm
Tuesday, April 12 at 7 pm (Practice with buzzers)
Monday, April 25 at 7 pm (Mandatory practice with buzzers)
Saturday, April 30 Goat Expo
At this point, all practices will be held at the Vlaming home, 8980 Peterson St., in Rockford. If anyone else wants to volunteer their home for a practice, that could be arranged too.
If the team feels there is a need to add more practice, we can easily set those up.
Please call me at 866-5898 or Ellen at 318-5447 or email me at Javlaming@yahoo.com if you have any questions.
Thanks,
Jodi and Ellen

What is QB?
Quiz Bowl is one of several events that is held at the 4-H Goat Expo in Lansing. It is held annually, usually in April. Goat Expo is a great event where the youth have an opportunity to learn by doing and to meet new 4-H youth from other counties. The booklet with information on events that youth can participate in is available from the MSU Extension office.
Quiz Bowl is broken down into a Jr. and Sr. Team events. Teams consist of at least 4 people, but can have 5 (with an alternate).
The Goat Quiz Bowl is a very competitive event and one of the highlights of the day as counties challenge each other in friendly competition.
For someone who is new to the Quiz Bowl event - basically on the day of the event, you will sit at a desk and have a buzzer to press to answer questions having to do with goats.
In Kent County, we have set it up so that ANY YOUTH who wants to participate can. You don't have to own a goat to be apart of the Quiz Bowl Team. We do ask that you have plenty of 4-H to make the best better attitude and a willingness to learn.
The team members meet to prepare and practice twice a month in January, February & March - with the Goat Expo taking place in April. Actual practice dates will be announced (probably by Jan).
For 2011 Jodi Vlaming & Ellen Biermacher will bo coaching the Team(s).
If you have any questions or would like to participate in the team please eMAIL Jodi and/or Ellen at javlaming@yahoo.com
More information will be posted on this page as it becomes available.
